About Rotary International in Evanston
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. The Evanston Rotary Club (chartered in 1982) is part of   Rotary District 5440 (serving all of Wyoming, Western Nebraska, Northern Colorado, and Eastern Idaho). Evanston Rotary members are men and women from various professions and vocations committed to serving and volunteering in our local community of Evanston, WY as well as internationally. Our fund raisers are used to combat hunger, educational illiteracy, improve health and sanitation,  disaster relief, job training, promoting peace, and especially eradicating polio.

Our motto is
Service Above Self.

Our mission is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and the diversity as community leaders.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and focus on:

1) The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
2) High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
3) The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
4) The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Four-way test (translated into more than 100 languages) asks the following questions of the things we think, say, and do:

1) Is it the truth?
2) Is it fair to all concerned?
3) Will build goodwill and better friendships?
4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Our strategic plan was begun In 2001-02, as a development to guide the organization as it entered its second century of service. In June 2007, the Board of Directors approved the RI Strategic Plan 2007-10, which identifies seven priorities:

1)     Eradicate polio.
2) Advance the internal and external recognition and public image of Rotary.
3) Increase Rotary's capacity to provide service to others.
4) Expand membership globally in both numbers and quality.
5) Emphasize Rotary's unique vocational service commitment.
6) Optimize the use and development of leadership talents within the Rotary International organization.
7) Fully implement the strategic planning process to ensure continuity and consistency throughout the organization.

Rotary's avenues of service are based on the objectives of Rotary:

1) Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
2) Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
3) Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
4) International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.
